Grading Criteria
The GCE O-Level grading system in Singapore ranges from A1 to F9. A1 is the highest grade and carries 1 point, while F9 is the lowest grade and carries 9 points. The minimum passing grade is C6, which carries 6 points.
Junior College Admission Requirements
The L1R5 scoring system is used for admission into Junior Colleges.
L1 - Language (usually English)
R5 - 5 relevant subjects (1 Mathematics or Science, 1 Humanities, 1 Mathematics, Science, or Humanities, 2 other best subjects)
To qualify for Junior College admissions, students have to pass the English Language, one Mathematics and at least one Science or Humanities subject. It is recommended to have an L1R5 score of 20 points or lower.
From 2028 onwards, the Junior College admission criteria will be revised from L1R5 to L1R4, reducing the number of subjects required for Junior College admission.
Polytechnic Admission Requirements
The ELR2B2 scoring system is used for admission into Polytechnics.
EL - English
R2 - 2 relevant subjects (relevancy depends on each specific course)
B2 - 2 other best subjects
To qualify for Polytechnic admissions, students have to pass the English Language and one Mathematics. It is recommended to have an ELR2B2 score of 26 points or lower.
Certification Requirements
Students have to pass at least one subject with credit to obtain certification.
