Developing
Lifelong Learners

The Preparatory Course for Singapore-Cambridge O-Level Examination prepares international students to reach a satisfactory level of competence with Singapore's O-Level syllabus, as well as equipping them with effective problem-solving techniques and test-taking strategies.

Core Subjects
English
The module enables students to:
 
1. Listen to, read and view critically and with accuracy, understanding, and appreciation a wide array of literary and informational texts in standard English.
 
2. Speak, write and represent in standard English that is grammatical, fluent, intelligible and appropriate for different purposes, audiences, contexts, and cultures.
Mathematics
The module enables students to:
 
1. Acquire mathematical concepts and skills for continuous learning in mathematics and to support learning in other subjects
 
2. Develop thinking, reasoning, communication, application and metacognitive skills through a mathematical approach to problem-solving
Additional Mathematics
The module enables students to:
 
1. Acquire mathematical concepts and skills for higher studies in mathematics and to support learning in the other subjects, with emphasis on the sciences
 
2. Develop thinking, reasoning, communication, application and metacognitive skills through a mathematical approach to problem-solving
Science (Physics, Chemistry)
The module enables students to:
 
1. Provide a worthwhile educational experience for all students, whether or not they go on to study science beyond this level
 
2. Develop in students the understanding and skills relevant to the practices of science, and enable them to appreciate practical applications of science in the real world
Principles of Accounts
The module enables students to:
 
1. Develop in students the knowledge and skills to prepare, communicate and use both accounting information and non-accounting information related to the business to make decisions

Pass BCI English placement test or equivalent

Passing Criteria

Grading Criteria

The GCE O-Level grading system in Singapore ranges from A1 to F9. A1 is the highest grade and carries 1 point, while F9 is the lowest grade and carries 9 points. The minimum passing grade is C6, which carries 6 points.

 

Junior College Admission Requirements

The L1R5 scoring system is used for admission into Junior Colleges.

L1 - Language (usually English)

R5 - 5 relevant subjects (1 Mathematics or Science, 1 Humanities, 1 Mathematics, Science, or Humanities, 2 other best subjects)

 

To qualify for Junior College admissions, students have to pass the English Language, one Mathematics and at least one Science or Humanities subject. It is recommended to have an L1R5 score of 20 points or lower.

 

From 2028 onwards, the Junior College admission criteria will be revised from L1R5 to L1R4, reducing the number of subjects required for Junior College admission.

 

Polytechnic Admission Requirements

The ELR2B2 scoring system is used for admission into Polytechnics.

EL - English

R2 - 2 relevant subjects (relevancy depends on each specific course)

B2 - 2 other best subjects

 

To qualify for Polytechnic admissions, students have to pass the English Language and one Mathematics. It is recommended to have an ELR2B2 score of 26 points or lower.

 

Certification Requirements

Students have to pass at least one subject with credit to obtain certification.
